Michele Barker & Anna Munster: évasion at UTS Gallery 28 Oct-28 Nov 2014

NIEA researchers Dr Michele Barker and Associate Professor Anna Munster will be presenting their new 8-channel installation évasion at UTS Gallery, opening 28 October, 6pm.

The installation explores choreographies of movement and escape in relation to cinema, sound and their histories.  An escape artist seems to be breaking free from a straightjacket when the installation ‘traps’ him and arrests the audience within 8 channels of an endlessly unfolding yet responsive performance.

Michele Barker and Anna Munster have collaborated since 1995. Their interactive, audiovisual installations address issues of perception, embodiment and scientific visualisation. They incorporate research from neuroscience, which addresses the role of illusion in visual perception by studying, for example, how magicians deploy sleight-of-hand and misdirection.

The installation is on exhibition at  UTS Gallery from 28 October – 28 November 2014, Monday-Friday, 12-6pm.
